Ezra Cukor’s legal work focuses on the enforcement and expansion of protections against discrimination and retaliation, particularly with regard to LGBTQ and gender discrimination.Ezra is a tenacious advocate for his clients’ civil rights, and seeks out any opportunity to take on novel or complex legal issues. While working at the New York City Commission on Human Rights, he spearheaded initiatives aiming to enforce and expand legal protections for New York City’s diverse communities with a focus on gender discrimination and discrimination against LGBTQ people. This included winning redress for discrimination against transgender people in the homeless shelter system and other institutional settings. Ezra also represented low-income LGBTQ New Yorkers in a wide variety of employment, housing and name change matters. He won a notable appellate decision establishing that undocumented immigrants who reside in New York have the right to a court ordered name change. While at the Center for Reproductive Rights, he litigated cases to protect and expand access to abortion.
Ezra regularly writes and speaks about LGBTQ civil rights issues, and recently co-authored ‘LGBTQIA+ Discrimination’ in Employment Discrimination Law & Litigation.
